The bug affects Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11. The problem was confirmed by other users and Microsoft later documented the whole thing as a bug (see Windows 11/Server 2022: Effective Access bug in Explorer confirmed). Has anyone else experienced this problem? Unpatched Server 2022 behaves correctly and as usual in that regard. Windows Explorer loads the CPU, but nothing happens. A German user described it as:Īfter installing the KB5026370 update, I can no longer query effective permissions via Windows Server 2022. Windows Server 2022 cumulative update KB5026370 prevents Explorer from querying effective permissions.

The issue was caused by the May 2023 security updates for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022. Microsoft has fixed the Effective Access issue in Explorer with the Windows 11 22H2 Preview update KB5027303, dated June 27, 2023.
